PHASE 1

Eligibility Check

Before applying

You need to have passed 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) or Mathematics (PCM). Most universities require a minimum of 50% aggregate.

PHASE 2

Undergraduate Degree / BSc Forensic Science

3 years

The foundation. Enroll in a BSc Forensic Science program. Admission is via entrance exams like CUET UG. Covers criminalistics, toxicology, document examination, fingerprinting, DNA analysis and crime scene investigation basics.

PHASE 3

Internship & Practical Training

During or after UG

Hands-on experience is critical. Seek internships at State Forensic Laboratory (SFSLs), CFSL, or with police departments. Many universities have ties try to make the most out of it. This also helps to build reference network.

PHASE 4

Postgraduate Degree / MSc Forensic Science

2 years

Master's is necessary for government laboratory and senior roles. Choose a specialisation that aligns with your interest and job market. Now-a-days its a must to get a specialisation related to your BSc. Admission is through entrance exams like CUET PG.

PHASE 5

Competitive exams & Job Entry

After MSc

Government roles require clearing recruitment exams. For PhD, Assistant Professor appear for UGC NET or CSIR NET. Further to evaluate aptitude and skills is FACT (Forensic Aptitude and Caliber Test)

PHASE 3

Postgraduate Degree / MSc Forensic Science

1 year

Choose a specialisation that aligns with your interest. Not a traditional 2 year degree. No entrance exams, but have to give (IETLS) International English Language Testing System.

PHASE 4

Job Entry & Career Progression

After MSc

Harsh reality - no one tells about Vetting background check / security check. Forensic roles require 3/5 years residency in the UK
